My dear friends, May is a special month in the life of Catholic Christians all over the world and on this seventh Sunday of Easter, which also is Mothers’ day, and the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord, I would like to share with you the most lethal weapon against evil and the dominions of darkness.
You may have noticed that wherever you see the statue of our Blessed Mother, her foot is always on the head of a serpent, crushing it to pieces. God had promised, “I will put enmities between you [Satan] and the woman [Our Blessed Mother], and… she shall crush thy head (Gen 3:15). Over the centuries, exorcists and Popes have testified that our Blessed Mother is the “Terror of Demons” and that demons flee at the mention of her name. Fr. Sante Babolin, an Italian exorcist, had this to say: “While I was insistently invoking the Most Holy Virgin Mary, the devil answered me: ‘I can’t stand That One [Mary] anymore…” He said that he noticed that the strongest reactions of the devil, during exorcism, was when he referenced the apparitions of our Blessed Mother. Another exorcist, Fr. Amorth, reported that the devil told him, “She [Our Blessed Virgin Mary] makes me angry because she is the humblest of all creatures… the purest of all creatures… and the most obedient to God” In the Rite of Exorcism, a part of the prayer that the priest says is, “The glorious Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, commands you; she who by her humility and from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception crushed your proud head, commands you.”
As Catholic Christians, God has given us a most lethal weapon in our Blessed Mother, through the rosary, to defeat the work of evil in our lives, in our families, and in the world. It is unto us to fly to her patronage. As Padre Pio puts it, “Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for the Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today. All graces given by God pass through the Blessed Mother.” Our Blessed Mother confirmed this in her apparition to Catherine Laboure in 1080; an apparition that came to be known as the Miraculous Medal.
My friends, I invite you to join us, during this month of May, in our nightly rosary, at 7:00 pm, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, held on our online platform—gotomeeting.com, ID: 574150285, except Wednesdays, when we have it, in person, in the Church, with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. All year round, we have nightly rosaries every Monday and Friday, online, and every Wednesday, in the Church with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
I invite us to fly to the patronage of our Blessed Mother and to teach our children how to pray the rosary. Giving a child the rosary and teaching that child how to pray is to give that child one of the strongest weapons against evil and tribulations. We recall the words of Pope Francis in his homily at St. Mary Major, “Where the Madonna is at home the devil does not enter; where there is the Mother [Mary], disturbance does not prevail, and fear does not win.” We fly to thy patronage, Oh Holy Mary Mother of God!
